Meet the lender – Christian Nolan, Bibby Financial Services

What trends are you currently seeing in the invoice finance market?

The most common trend right now is funding for growth. Many businesses find that their current funding provider is reluctant to increase support or that their facility no longer fits their needs. This creates an opportunity to review and improve the facilities in place. We’re also seeing more funding for business sales or buyouts, though I’m unsure if that’s due to more transactions or fewer being picked up by clearing banks.

What advice would you give to businesses seeking financing for the first time?

New funders and products are entering the market all the time. I’d always recommend working with a trusted market advisor. This will speed up the process and help ensure you get the best deal available.

Do you foresee the lending landscape changing in the next few years and if so, how will this impact finance?

There are several macroeconomic factors that could affect lending in the coming months and years. However, invoice finance is highly adaptable, so I expect minimal disruption. We constantly track market trends to better serve both new and existing clients.

What motivates you personally in your work as a lender?

Meeting new people and building relationships is one of the best parts of this job. Helping business owners and advisory partners to create tailored funding solutions is a big motivation for me.

How long have you been working with Evolve Business Finance, and how has the partnership benefited your business?

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Stef and the Evolve team for many years. During this time, we’ve provided a range of working capital facilities to SMEs across the UK. Working with Evolve is always smooth, with the client’s needs at the forefront, which is a huge benefit from any lender’s perspective.

Can you share something about yourself that people might be surprised to learn?

I have always been a numbers person rather than a reader, and I only actually read my first book last year (at 38) thanks to a colleague’s recommendation. Atomic Habits…highly recommended!
