Meet the lender – Ken Feast, Natwest

In a changing financial world, businesses are facing challenges such as rising interest rates and new regulations. We spoke to Ken Feast, head of business at NatWest about the CID market, new borrowers and what drives him as a lender. Read on to explore his practical tips for the today’s funding options.

What trends are you currently seeing in the CID market?
I’m seeing a degree of caution from businesses around over-leveraging in a high-interest environment. Many are managing cash more cautiously to avoid unnecessary borrowing.

What advice would you give to businesses seeking financing for the first time?
Be open to alternative ways of raising finance that you might not have considered. Often, businesses come to me thinking they need an overdraft, when an invoice finance facility could actually offer them more flexibility and room for growth. So, I’d say, try not to focus too narrowly on one option. Keep an open mind when discussing your funding needs with advisors.

Do you foresee the lending landscape changing in the next few years? How will this impact finance?
The Basel 3 reforms are set to be one of the biggest regulatory shifts. Funders are already assessing how these changes will impact their business models as we move toward Basel 3 minimum standards through 2028.

What motivates you in your work as a lender?
For me, it’s incredibly rewarding to make a real difference in people’s lives. I’m fortunate to support businesses that contribute to our communities, employ local talent, and strengthen the UK economy.

How long have you been working with Evolve Business Finance, and how has the partnership benefited your business?
I’ve known Stef for many years, dating back to when we both worked for different funders in the same market. Evolve has a solid grasp of the UK invoice finance scene, and they consistently present comprehensive proposals that cover all risk aspects. This allows us to offer competitive pricing and structure.

Can you share something about yourself that people might be surprised to learn?
I’m also the DJ and MC for the Nottingham Panthers Ice Hockey club! Come down to the Motorpoint Arena, catch a game and cheer on the Panthers!

Any final thoughts?
NatWest maintains a strong commercial and corporate presence across UK cities with a significant network of relationship managers. If your business could benefit from a local relationship bank, get in touch with us and see the difference we can make.
